Working Thesis and Arguments/Claims
Working Thesis: Although some schools are removing recesses from elementary schools, recess benefit children physically, socially, academically, and mentally.
#1
Argument - Recess is physically beneficial to students.
Counterargument - Children can get the proper amount of exercise they need out of school time.
#2
Argument - Recess can help students gain social skills. The students interact with other students and obey the rules of the teachers.
Counterargument - Students can gain in social skills within educational classroom activities.
#3
Argument - It may be easier for students to concentrate when they have breaks. It is hard for children to focus for hours at a time without down time for relaxation.
Counterargument - If students worked the entire school day they may not have to take home work to do. If they did this then students would have the evenings free for leisure activities.
#4
Argument - Physical activity during recess helps make children make smarter. Spending time outside having fun stimulates the brain.
Counterargument - Children could injure themselves while playing with others.
#5
Argument - Recess gives children a time to use some of the energy they have.
